In high school, I found myself drawn to the photographic arts, both still and motion picture, and followed that inclination in college graduating with a degree in communications specializing in film and television production from Adelphi University.
After a year long stint as a staff photographer in Buffalo, NY , I traveled to Texas to make my fortune in the world. Shortly after arriving, I secured a position with Panavision Dallas eventually repairing motion picture cameras and lenses. While there, I was able to make a number of important contacts that would serve me well when I left to go freelance in the motion picture industry.
Freelancing is the art of building a business employing yourself and as such requires hard work, dedication and focus to achieve success. It took almost two years to get the business running and profitable but when it hit, it was like getting on a rollercoaster at the bottom of the first hill. So off and going strong, I spent the better part of my adult life working on major motion pictures, television shows and documentaries in various roles within the camera department. Working in the film business at that level of play demands almost total commitment, tremendous discipline and good fortune.
After getting married and the subsequent birth of our first child, I decided a career change was in order so that I could be in town to spend more time with my family. To that end, I became a Surgical Technologist as well as a Registered Nurse working around the Dallas area in various hospitals. Parkland Hospital, a level 1 trauma center, was were my career in the operating room began and where I learned the most about surgery especially in the areas of major poly-traumas, orthopedics & burns. Following several years of clinically coordinating a prominent North Dallas total joint practice, I finished my career in healthcare at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Zale Lipshy University Hospital.
Photography has always been an important part of my life. Creating images that inspire others to reacquaint themselves with the awe & wonder they once found in the natural world has become my new goal.
